Degrees of comparison are used to compare the qualities or quantities of nouns or pronouns. There are three main degrees of comparison:

1. Positive Degree:
This degree simply states a quality or quantity without making any comparison.
Example: This apple is red. (No comparison is made)

2. Comparative Degree:
This degree compares two nouns or pronouns and shows which has a greater or lesser degree of the quality.
It is formed by adding "-er" to the positive form of the adjective (for shorter adjectives) or by using "more" before the adjective (for longer adjectives).
Example:
This apple is redder than that one. (Comparing two apples)
This apple is more delicious than that one. (Comparing two apples)

3. Superlative Degree:
This degree compares more than two nouns or pronouns and shows which has the greatest or least degree of the quality.
It is formed by adding "-est" to the positive form of the adjective (for shorter adjectives) or by using "most" before the adjective (for longer adjectives).
Example:
This is the reddest apple in the basket. (Comparing this apple to all the others)
This is the most delicious apple in the basket. (Comparing this apple to all the others)
Rules for Forming Degrees of Comparison:

Short Adjectives: Add "-er" for the comparative and "-est" for the superlative.
Long Adjectives: Use "more" for the comparative and "most" for the superlative.
Adjectives Ending in "y": Change "y" to "i" and add "-er" or "-est".
Adjectives Ending in "e": Add "-r" or "-st".

Example:
Positive: tall
Comparative: taller
Superlative: tallest
Remember:

We use "than" after the comparative degree.
We use "the" before the superlative degree.
