Welcome to Reykjavík, capital of the beautiful country of Iceland. With a population of around 140,000 people, this city is small but has so much to offer especially if you like a little food adventure like we do. So let's go on an Icelandic food walk.
If you don't want to do this food tour on your own, then join this tour with an Icelandic guide who will take you around and tell you way more then we can about the food and Icelandic culture.

Our Icelandic food journey started with a surprisingly delicious Icelandic hot dog or also know locally as pylsa or pulsa. We ate it at the only place worth eating it called Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur located on Tryggvagata in the centre of Reykjavik. Don't like Bill Clinton did when he got his hot dog with mustard only! Go for everything, which is the right way to eat an Icelandic hot dog.
From there we went to a lovely bakery called Brauð & Co for the best cinnamon bun we have ever had on top of an authentic Icelandic cake known as the Happy Marriage Cake. This place is worth a stop and don't be late because they might run out of the good stuff which is baked fresh on site daily.
Now the real adventurous part of this Reykjavik food tour starts at Íslenski Barinn or the Icelandic Bar where we tried smoked lamb of Icelandic flat bread with butter, Puffin on Icelandic crumpet and Reindeer burger with camembert cheese, lettuce, bell pepper, wild berry jam, garlic mayo & waffle fries. The burger was for sure the best out of the tree but we can't say that reindeer meat add much over a normal beef burger. The puffin meat itself had a very strong taste and even though it was good in the crumpet, I am not sure I would order this wild bird again.
After a quick walk on the famous Reykjavik rainbow road and a stop at the Hallgrímskirkja Church which is one of the most impressive structure I have seen, we headed for ice cream in January... We picked Valdis, a very cute and inviting ice cream shop serving over two dozen of flavors including salted liquorish and frozen skyr.
To end the food tour portion of this vlog, we HAD to try fermented shark with a glass of Brennivín. Did we like it? not really but this was a food experience of its own which we have done at Cafe Loki right across from the Hallgrimskirkja Church. And that was it for our Reykjavik food walk!
