In these days we're living in, the world-wide refugee crisis is front and center in politics, religion, and fills the daily news cycle all around the world. For those of us whom this crisis doesn't directly affect, it's easier to ignore, debate, pick a side, and then move on. But this is bigger than we realize... it's tied to the very experience of God himself when He walked upon this earth in the form of Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph and Mary, who fled to find asylum and safety in Egypt and escape Herod's death warrant for their baby. We can't just turn away, or scroll on. Yes this issue is nuanced and complex.. yes there are no easy fixes.. but we can't escape this reality: Jesus Christ lived in Egypt as a refugee with his family for the first 8 years of his life. And his words echo through history to us now: "whatever you've done to the least of these, you've done it to me." It's my hope this song touches your heart, fills you with awe, and opens your eyes to the beauty and sorrow, the vulnerability and sacrifice of God with us... the God who was born a refugee.
