Not a picture perfect gameplay video, but I just wanted to get one out there for any finals gyro fans. If you wanna see better gameplay, then my guy voiceless gyro is the guy to watch for sure. He streams on twitch and sometimes posts on youtube, mainly shorts (which I should also be doing tbh). His twitch and youtube are here:

For anyone curious why I've been inactive, I was hella busy doing my finals and graduating which is nice. Mainly I've been playing Fortnite recently, but not the main modes, just the pit-style maps (big area where every drops in and just fights with generally equal footing). I'm bored of that now which is why I'm back on the finals, and what better way to start it off than with a nice and chill TDM match.
VERY LONG Gyro yap for anyone curious below:
I was messing around with a pure gyro setup (meaning right stick isn't used) in fortnite, which included extreme acceleration curves, sometimes even replaced entirely by tightening (which is just even extreme-er accel). For pure gyro setups, its probably optimal to do it like that, but the conclusion I find is that right stick (or flickstick) + gyro is the way. Like people used to say, right stick is like your arm and gyro is like your wrist (comparing to mouse aiming).
The reason I was messing around with accel (which later led me to try pure gyro) was because of the fact that gyro has worse precision than mouse but better tracking. An old viscose video goes through her experience with accel, where she finds that she doesn't like accel, but that accel provides precision advantages but tracking disadvantages. I also believe that this is truly the case, and that the more extreme your accel curve (the more steep) the more exacerbated this effect becomes, hence why I was playing around with the more steep curve, tightening. Tightening basically is accel that starts at 0 which is why it can be more steep than other curves. This proved amazing for a pure gyro setup, but once I switched back to the finals, I had issues.
The tracking was very hard and the finals really needs your tracking to be on point so I was doing horribly. After a lot of mulling it over, and playing around with many different settings, this is the conclusion I came to:
When it comes to 2 handed gyro (dualsense, ds4, anything that isn't split like a joycon), you can only really use your wrists to aim, not your arms. Mouse gets to use arm for less accurate large motions and wrist for more accurate small motions. You get to use 2 things to aim with but gyro only gets 1. This is why using the right stick to become the "arm" for gyro is so good.
The conclusion has to have a disclaimer that on 1 handed controllers, you can use your wrist AND your arm, so pure gyro is much more viable there, as you can rotate each wrist without it being block by the other wrist. I have bought the aolion J20 joycons which are highly recommended (by directedinput) and cheap aswell. Played around with them for a bit to check they are good (can confirm, they are nice, and try get the dongle with it), but I'm only going to do a deep dive when I get back from holiday.
Another disclaimer is that 2 handed controllers can also achieve this, but only if the controller is in the air tbh. If not, then its not really feasible I think. Getdunked, gyro aiming legend, is somewhat recently started playing like this and I think he is kinda combining wrist and arm motions to his advantage which is cool. I personally don't want to do it, because it sounds to uncomfortable for me, but who knows.
For anyone curious about the 1handed joycon I bought, I got it from this aliexpress listing:

Still shocked at how cheap it is, its competing with the very cheapest name brand controllers, even with charging dock, dongle, case and cable. Also, make sure you get the charging dock if you don't own a switch 1. There is no USB-C port to charge the controllers, they must be connected to the dock or a switch 1 console. Also, I highly recommend the dongle as it feels better and has better polling rate than using bluetooth.
Hopefully more videos to come in the future, and hopefully better aim than in this one lmao
