2023 Whitley Award winner, Mamy Razafitsalama from Madagascar is accelerating his community-based fire management programme to protect lemur habitat in Madagascar. Home to 150,000 species found nowhere else on Earth – including 110 species of lemur – Madagascar, has lost nearly half of its forest cover in the last 50 years, leaving one-third of lemur species Critically Endangered.
