The first webcam went online in November 1993, allowing people worldwide to see the status of the coffee pot.--I walk down the street with my cameras - a house of worship maybe near - maybe a post office - a bank - it doesn't matter to me - I record everything I see from a public space - it's perfectly legal - it's actually a First Amendment right - reference - The Open View Doctrine - if you'r confused - that's how there are cameras on banks, libraries , house of worships - street lights , post offices , YOUR RING DOORBELL , Tesla's - car webcams - all looking at people in the street ( should I call a cop and say you recorded me when I walked by ) think people , a camera can be anywhere , you know that - do any ask your permission - the fact that I have it in my hand makes no difference , so get a grip - don't be a lunatic Karen / Darren and leave me the hell alone - I am friendly to every single car and to every person on bike or foot - I will oblige and NOT record you if you say PLEASE ( the magic word - mom taught you ) - unless you work for me - then don't ask!!! - I might wander into government buildings and check on government employees in the course of their duty - they have no choice , I am their boss , it is my building , what happens when you tell your boss not to record you or tape your phone conversations - you get fired - I record everything that happens to me - this is what happened on this day walking down the street

This applies to photographing you or your child
Basically, with a few exceptions, it is actually perfectly legal for strangers to photograph or videotape your child, and they are free to post or publish the images as well.Contrary to what many parents believe, they do not need to give their consent or sign a release.


A good thing to remember if you are talking to the police - their body cams are public information - they are recording everything you say - anyone can FOIA request them ( Freedom Of Information Act ) - often they take you in private to talk - those conversations are not private if they have a body cam on - they will redact personal information - but myself or anyone else can request them
