From Earth we always see the same side of the moon. This Movie shows a relaxing 16 minute tour viewing parts of the moon that we do not see.

Moon Facts:
The Moon rotates once every 27.3 days, which is the same amount of time it takes to orbit Earth.
This is called tidal locking.
Because the rotation period and orbit period match, we always see (roughly) the same side of the Moon from Earth.
The Moon goes through 8 main phases in each 29.5-day lunar cycle:
New Moon - Moon is between Earth and Sun; the side facing Earth is dark.
Waxing Crescent - A small sliver of the Moon becomes visible on the right side.
First Quarter - Half the Moon is lit on the right side (looks like a “D”).
Waxing Gibbous - More than half lit, growing toward full.
Full Moon - Entire face is illuminated.
Waning Gibbous - Light begins shrinking from the right; more than half still lit.
Last (Third) Quarter - Half the Moon is lit on the left side.
Waning Crescent - A small sliver is left on the left before returning to New Moon.
