First Amendment: Free Speech - Freedom of the Press. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen is attempting to shut down an investigation into corruption in his office by targeting investigative reporter and publisher Susan Bassi.
Rosen claims Bassi poses a threat to his physical safety.
Rosen is attempting to obtain a civil harassment restraining order against Bassi. The civil harassment case involves First Amendment issues including free speech, and freedom of the press.
In his court papers, Rosen failed to mention that Bassi is a reporter and publisher. To increase his chances that the judge will grant the restraining order, in his sworn declaration Rosen instead attempts to portray Bassi as a stalker.
