In today’s episode I’m going over the most common serves in handball.
I won’t be going over the different types of swings when it comes to these served because there are a lot of variables to handball and serving so I’ll save that for another video.
The first serve is taken place on the right most corner in bound behind the short line. This is a good serve typically to abuse the angle you have when swinging from outside the court pushing the opponent as far out as possible leaving a lot of opportunities, openings, or “set ups” as we call it in handball.
A set up is an opportunity to do whatever you like with your shot. Also known as an easy line up.
In the handball world, PeeWee is known for doing this serve so as a nickname we call it the peewee serve.
The second serve is taken place on the left side of the court by the corner of the short line. This serve is a little tougher considering you have less of an angle but still more control when receiving a return from your opponent. When you serve this way, your dominant hand is more likely to receive the ball for a set up. The nick name for this serve is called the Ray Lopez serve.
The last serve takes place on the middle. In my humble opinion I believe the middle of the court is the best place to serve the ball. You have the most control and the most anonymity when it comes to where you might be serving. You can go left, right, serve deep to push the opponent back or serve right over the short line to keep them on their toes. A lot of the best players in the world serve near the center of the court!
Again my description is based on myself being a right handed dominant player.
If you’re new to the channel or heard about handball or me for the first time I thank you for checking out my first episode of Ballin With Joe
