One of the coolest things I’ve ever done.
Obviously the sights brought new perspectives, but so did the experience.
We are so conditioned to think we need so much.
But our bodies are remarkably adaptive and can be incredibly efficient when tested and pushed to the limit.
Last summer was hot and rolled right into early fall. On September 4th I traversed 4 peaks with the sun beating down. I carried nothing but a small satchel containing pocket drone, phone, cigar, small bottle of water and emergency nuts incase I completely shut down at some point while crossing the rugged costal mountain terrain.
The coolest part was seeing where the mind goes. At a certain point you enter a flow state. The exercise becomes a meditation. You become incredibly focused on nothing but the next scramble and boulder to climb. It’s a lot like being in mushrooms where you feel a heightened sensitivity to nature… buzzing insects… the roots that connect underfoot… the feeling of the sun on your back…
This is one of the things I’m looking forward to most this spring when snow melts and the mountains become more accessible once again.
If you don’t have mountains where you live you can still do something similar. Follow the same principle of doing a lot with a little. Go far and see how your body reacts. Consider it an experiment wherein you almost step outside yourself and take notes in your physical preference as if an observer.
