So a short while ago I made a video on Mike Copeland and his awesome hydrogen powered 1948 Chevy pickup. The truck is powered by a 6.2 liter LS motor, and he converted the supercharged v8 to run on Hydrogen. Now in that video I said that he wanted to build a kit that you can use to convert any car in order to run on this fuel. Well today we are taking a look at yet another classic American v8 which he converted to hydrogen. Proving that it is possible.
Before talk about the new car he build I want to quickly address something. Engineering explained made this whole video on hydrogen combustion engines, and don’t get me wrong I do like his videos, but the tech is being developed and bettered literally on a daily basis. And mike Copeland actually talked about range. So Engineering explained’s point is that it is useless to build a hydrogen ice engine because their range would be crap.
Well Copeland says that his 6.2 liter supercharged V8 Hydrogen Internalcombustion truck drives around 3 and a halve hours on one tank of Hydrogen fuel. If we drive 60miles and hour or around 100 km/h that’s around 210 miles or 337km on one tank, this is the size of the tank, and yes that’s not crazy far but here is the thing, it’s a 6.2 liter v8 with a massive supercharger. It wouldn’t be much better on gasoline either. If you had a smaller engine like the 3 cylinder turbo Toyota is working on it would be much better.
Anyways back to the new car Mike build. if you want to know more on the car watch the video :D
