We visited Muktinath, Nepal on 26 th October,2002. This video is the document of our journey in Mustang from Jomsom to Pokhara on 26 th October.

The Mustang region is a remote and rugged area located in the north-central part of Nepal, bordering Tibet. It is part of the larger Himalayan region and is known for its unique landscape, culture, and history.

Mustang is divided into two regions: Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang. Upper Mustang, also known as the "Kingdom of Lo," was a separate kingdom until it was annexed by Nepal in the 18th century. It is a restricted area that requires a special permit to enter costing US Dollar 500 per head. It is known for its unique landscape of barren deserts, towering cliffs, and deep gorges. The region is also home to the ancient city of Lo Manthang.

Lower Mustang, on the other hand, is a more accessible region that is known for its stunning mountain scenery and traditional villages.We travelled around in this region. It is located along the popular Annapurna Circuit trek, which is one of the most popular hiking routes in the world.

Kagbeni is a village known for its unique culture of tibetan influence and landscape which is on the way to upper mustang from lower.This place is a holy place for Hindus also where Pitripuja is done for deceased ancestors.

Mustang is also home to a number of important religious sites, including the Muktinath Temple, which is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists.

The Jomsom to Muktinath and surrounding roads offers stunning scenery and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. These roads are known for its rugged terrain, steep inclines, and picturesque landscapes.

The journey to Muktinath begins in Jomsom, a small town situated on the bank of the Kali Gandaki River. The road winds through the barren and desolate landscape of the Mustang region, which is characterized by stark cliffs and rock formations. As we travelled along the road, we passed through several small villages, where we saw traditional Nepalese houses and observed the daily life of the local people.

As we continued along the road, the landscape gradually changed, and we began to see green hills and lush vegetation. The road then ascends steeply, offering panoramic views of the surrounding snow covered mountains, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Annapurna. We also passed by the famous Kagbeni village, which is known for its ancient architecture and picturesque streets.

Finally, the road leads to Muktinath, a sacred Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site situated at an altitude of 3,710 meters. The place is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Nepal.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped by Hindus as the preserver of the universe. The name "Muktinath" means "place of liberation" in Sanskrit, and it is believed that a visit to the temple can bring about spiritual liberation and freedom from the cycle of birth and death.

The temple complex consists of two main shrines: one dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Buddhist deity Avalokiteshvara and other is dedicated to Padmasambhaba.

The Jomsom to Muktinath and surrounding roads offer a truly unforgettable experience, with its stunning scenery and unique cultural heritage. It is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Nepal.
