In this video, I break down the core logical and metaphysical problems facing classical Trinitarianism using the tools of analytic philosophy. Drawing on themes like classical identity, Relative Identity theory, partialism, polytheism, Nestorianism, and the hypostatic union, I show why the traditional formulations struggle to remain coherent under rigorous analysis.

We explore why classical Leibnizian identity makes it impossible for three distinct persons to be numerically the same one God without collapsing into contradiction. From there, we examine why Relative Identity was introduced as a rescue strategy — and why leading Trinitarian philosophers such as Michael Rea, Brian Leftow, and H.E. Baber argue that RI is ad hoc, metaphysically extravagant, or forces the doctrine into modalism, anti‑realism, or Neo‑Sabellianism.

I then show how RI inevitably leads to partialism — where “God” becomes a whole composed of personal parts — or to polytheism, since the Father and Son possess non‑shared essential properties that block numerical identity even under RI.

Finally, I examine the Christological implications: how the claim that one person possesses both a divine nature and a human nature creates contradictory essential properties, incompatible sortals, and ultimately two centers of consciousness. This is why many philosophers conclude that classical Christology collapses into Nestorianism, despite its intention to affirm a single person.
