If you hadn’t figure out by now, Metrolink replaced their Bombardier Cab-Cars with Hyundai-Rotem ones as they are more protective in the event of a collision. The first cab-cars were sent in for Coach-car conversions in the early 2010s. This only applied for around half of the Bombardier Cab-Car fleet. Other units were simply moved into storage. In recent years, Metrolink is in the process of sending in all of their Bombardier Cab-Cars for rebuilds into regular coaches. All cab-control essentials and parts were removed along with covering up the cab-windows, and the cars also received new paint jobs, from the turquoise-teal ribbon paint scheme to Metrolink’s new simplified multi-blue stripe scheme. Most of the Cab-Cars in the 601-631 range now roam the rails as regular coaches, with the last of the them expected to be completed in the relatively near future. This leaves the cabcars in the 632-637 range the only original Bombardier Cabcars left, at least on Metrolink. Only time will tell what Metrolink decides to do with them.
In this video, I’ll give a brief overview about the Cab-Cars being sent in for rebuilds into standard coaches, then we’ll look at some of the ones that I’ve seen over the years. All clips are listed in order by the date they were taken.
