At long last... I´ve 1cc´d Chaos Field Arcade as Hal! All that training from playing this game at HEY Akihabara finally paid off! A nice achievement at early start of 2026! This also counts as my 2nd MileStone clear!
And god, did I despise boss 3 and mid-boss 4-1 so much.
Chaos Field is a shmup by MileStone in 2004 initially for NAOMI, and this was their first game. The GC port (Expanded) adds Original mode, which features zako enemy sections before the bosses.
The main attacking methods are shot (A) and sword (B), with the sub-attacks being Wing Layer (A+B), and Lock-on (B+C).
The basic mechanics are Order Field, which is the regular field, and Chaos Field, which boosts your stats while making enemies and patterns more agressive.
For each time you damage a boss part, you get Meta items, which fill your Meta stocks. If your Meta stocks are all full, and you damage a boss part, you´ll get point items. Both of these item types can be attracted by letting go the buttons.
How scoring works is that each boss part has a score value. The core mechanic of scoring is Hit count, which increases everytime an erasable bullet is cancelled with Wing Layer and Lock-on. Speaking of Lock-on and Hit count, you can create a higher Hit count if you Lock-on at erasable bullets in the Chaos field.
There´s also the hidden MileStone logo item, which appear in mid-boss 1-2, mid-boss 3-1 and mid-boss 5, and collecting one add a shield stock. To make these appear, you have to kill those bosses in the Order field before 55 seconds in mid-boss 1-2, 64 seconds in mid-boss 3-1 and 140 seconds in mid-boss 5.
