Описание:
Acrobat ants (crematogaster scutellaris) busy at work in the south of France.
Ants are rushing in opposite directions; those returning to the nest typically carrying food items. When ants heading in opposite directions crash into one another, they are checking that they are from the same colony by scent. The ants will favour architectural line such as the edges of walls, cracks in the masonry, electrical cables, the apexes of curved roof tiles and tree branches as routes, but these will also be marked with scent to define routes to food sources. When under threat, acrobat ants can raise and bend their abdomens over their heads (hence, acrobat ants) and shoot acidic venom at the foe. Other common names for these ants are cocktail ants where raising their abdomens is likened to raising a cocktail glass, or Saint Valentine ants on account of their heart-shaped abdomens.
The audio was recorded in Songpan, Sichuan Provence in China. The frenetic activity heard in this audio seemed to match that seen in the ants.
