Dead Letter Circus has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard them back around 2010 (so over a decade now!). In fact, many years ago I actually did a cover of the song "Lines" from one of their first EP's. I couldn't even remember if it was still on my YouTube channel - upon searching just now, I found it. It's there - pretty far back, but if you search, you'll find it!
Anyways - #DeadLetterCircus remains one of my favorite bands to this day, & I've listened to every one of their releases. This track, "We Own The Light", is from their latest (& self-titled) release that came out in 2018. Much to my dismay, they haven't released an album since then.
I found myself revisiting pretty much all of DLC's music throughout the last 6+ months or so, but especially this album. This song in particular always really struck me; I'm not sure if it was a particularly popular song from this album, but it's definitely one of my favorites. In general, DLC has always meant a lot to me. Not only the lyrics, but the general vocal execution of said lyrics, paired with how they lay over the music... I just really love & appreciate it. Additionally, Luke Williams writes some of the coolest (& most underrated) 'drum riffs' I've ever heard.
DLC is a band that I seem to always revisit when I'm not in the best way, & learning / playing this song was incredibly cathartic (cheesy as it may sound, it's the truth). I touched on it a bit in my last video description, but drums have felt a bit different to me lately. Moreover, they just haven't consistently brought me the same emotional release as they usually do (& always have, historically). I'm not really sure why that is. But learning / playing this one was sort of an exception to that, so I really quite enjoyed doing it.
Honestly, I wish I could write / play in a band like this all the time, Haha. It's more in line with what I actually listen to & enjoy doing these days. Will always enjoy the tech-stuff too, but yeah - stylistically, I love this kind of thing.
I used an A.I. splitter for the backing audio here, as I didn't have access to the album stems. There were some weird little artifacts in the vocals, & I had to do some general editing / clean up. But overall, the A.I. did a pretty good job with separating / recreating the individual stems. Sometimes those things are pretty hit or miss to me. I'm sure they'll only continue to get better, though.
& of course, the super-hella-sick mix was done by the one & only, good buddy, Declan White. Love & appreciate ya, dude.
Alrighty - on to kit specs:
Oh wait I should probably write this first (Lol): If you haven't already, check out my NEW Meinl Stick & Brush Signature Drumstick! You can buy em' online & in certain stores now!
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...
It looks like they're actually almost out of stock on Sweetwater again, but I'll text my Meinl rep & see where there might be more stock of them (then will let ya'll know on insta or something). I guess it's good if they're selling out online already, Lol! I mean, they're incredibly sick - I really, genuinely love them & couldn't be happier to be working with Meinl Stick & Brush now, too. Meinl as a whole I've been with for well over 10 years now. Love Meinl, & Meinl Stick & Brush, a whole lot.

And lastly: I saw some of the comments on my last upload, pertaining to what I wrote towards the end of that last video description. I didn't reply to everything / everyone individually, but I wanted to say that I really appreciate all of you that commented & said something. It means a lot. Things are ongoing, & not much has changed. But I'm doing the best that I can. Your all's kindness hasn't gone unnoticed, & it really does mean a lot to me right now.
I really hope that you enjoy this video. Much love, ya'll.
