About 65 thousand Kurds gathered in Bonn, Germany, Saturday to demand a peaceful resolution of the Kurdish struggle for autonomy in south-east Turkey.
Police said there were no arrests although some of the demonstrators were carrying prohibited flags and emblems of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is banned in Germany as a terrorist organisation.
The German Kurds marched to the university green in Bonn as part of their campaign for a political solution of the Kurdish conflict in Turkey, where Kurdish guerrillas are fighting for an independent Kurdistan.
They were joined by Kurdish expatriates who had come from France and other neighbouring countries.
German police made no arrests although some demonstrators were carrying prohibited flags and emblems of the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
Known by its Turkish initials PKK, the group is banned in Germany as a terrorist organisation.
The annual rally was organised by various Kurdish groups and delegates of the environmentalist Green Party in the NorthRhine-Westphalia parliament.

"We are here to demonstrate for a political and democratic solution which gives the Kurdish people liberty, national autonomy, democracy and free cultural development. Until now this right is not given by Turkish dictatorship. But enough blood has been wasted."

The eight (m) million Kurds are the world's largest stateless people.
Their homeland is spread among Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
And almost half a (m) million Turkish Kurds live in Germany.
