I planted a pygmy date palm tree outside, in the ground, just west of Toronto. This is one of those "flowy", delicate palm trees, not one of those rough looking, windmill palm trees found in the Vancouver area. I wanted to know if one of these types of palm trees could survive the winter in the ground, in Southern Ontario.
This was a labour of love, from the greenhouse construction, to the 3D animations and video editing. It has taken me 3 years to complete this video, but it's finally done!
The result? YES. Absolutely, you a pygmy date palm tree from Florida can survive the winter, in the ground, in Southern Ontario, albeit in a greenhouse over winter, and with some ground heating.
This is Tropical Toronto's first project and it was a success!
