A kiln malfunction at a Taiwanglass factory in Taichung caused a spectacular fire on Monday afternoon. More than 1,300 tons of red-hot molten glass flowed freely inside the factory, creating a cascade of lava into the basement. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident, and the fire was put out after three hours. Let’s hear more.

In our initial assessment, we determined that the temperature inside had reached somewhere between 1,400 and 1,500 degrees. The factory activated its anti-fire systems at the very first moment, and the sprinklers were turned on to reduce the temperature. The firefighting team deployed three more water lines to cool down the factory. The company is assessing the situation, and when the temperature permits, staff will check for any equipment malfunctions and take further action.

The plant affected is located in Wuqi District and manufactures touch glass, processed glass and solar glass. The factory has yet to confirm whether the fire has affected its production lines.
