What is an air gap? An air gap is an open space separation between an indirect waste pipe and a waste receptor like a floor drain, a floor sink or a standpipe. In this video Plumber-Tom gives the exact definition from the International Plumbing Code Chapter 8, and explains some techniques for the installation of an air gap. In contrast, Plumber-Tom also defines an air break according to the International Plumbing Code and gives some examples of air breaks.
