'Zadok the Priest' is a choral anthem composed by George Frideric Handel as part of his coronation anthem for King George II of Britain. It's one of the four anthems that Handel wrote for the coronation ceremony, collectively known as the "Coronation Anthems." These anthems were composed in 1727 and have since become an integral part of British coronation ceremonies, often performed during the anointing of the monarch.
The performance of "Zadok the Priest" at Charles III's coronation marks the third time it has ever been played at a British Coronation, following the song's first recording at his grandfathers coronation in 1937, and his late mothers in 1953.
