Soke Inoue Yoshimi, Rika Usami's legendary master, explains the importance of aiming at maximum speed during complex parts of the kata to impress judges and spectators in competitions. Using the body rotation in Suparimpei as example, he says that playing safe to maintain balance is not the best attitude, because it makes the performance "boring". Mistakes are acceptable, as they can be made up for in subsequent sections of the kata and can be addressed over time with additional training. Competitors should avoid negative thoughts focused on preventing mistakes: instead, they should always have a positive mindset and aim at impressing judges and spectators by showcasing their top speed.
