On August 19th, 1981, @nehemiah1981 became the first person to break the 13 second barrier in the 110m Hurdles.
At the Weltklasse Meeting in Zürich, Switzerland, Nehemiah ran a World Record time of 12.93 seconds, improving on his previous record of 13.00 run 2 years prior in 1979. He battled it out with Greg Foster who ran a time of 13.03 seconds behind him, which was the 3rd fastest time ever, only behind Nehemiah's previous world record.
Nehemiah's race was a barrier breaking performance, not only for literally breaking the 13 second barrier, but for also pushing the event into new territory and ushering in a wave hurdlers who would go on break 13 seconds in the 1980s and 90s including Roger Kingdom, Colin Jackson, Allen Johnson, Jack Pierce, Mark Crear and many others in the subsequent decades.
Over 40 years later, Nehemiah's World Record time still ranks him #13 all-time in the event
