Abandoned to Amazing: My Sicilian Villa Real Estate Investment & Off-Grid Homestead 🌿🏡

This week, I'm diving into some heavy-duty cleanup and maintenance as I transform my abandoned Sicilian villa into an off-grid homestead. From tackling overgrown weeds to inspecting the septic system, each step is bringing this real estate investment closer to becoming a sustainable and beautiful retreat in Sicily. 🌞

🔑 Episode Highlights:

Garden Transformation 🌱: Armed with my new Sterwins petrol grass trimmer from Leroy Merlin, I cut back overgrown grass and weeds along the villa walls, clearing space for future projects. After trimming, I raked and gathered all the debris into piles for a controlled burn, making a huge difference in tidying up the property.

Septic Pit Inspection 🕵️‍♂️: Next, I tackled a crucial part of off-grid living-inspecting the septic pit. I checked the drain chambers for water flow and searched for any rat entry points. I showed close-ups of the damaged septic cover and did tests to ensure all pipes from the kitchen, bathroom, and toilet are in working order. This inspection is key to making the property safe and functional.

Bathroom Cleanup 🚽: Back inside, I tackled some rodent-related stains in the bathroom, giving the toilet a thorough bleach clean. I even placed a block of wood in the toilet to prevent any unexpected "visitors" from below!

Heavy-Duty Garden Cleanup 🌳 Returning to the garden, I focused on the areas around the olive trees and the water well, clearing out old roots, weeds, and overgrown patches along the garden walls. I piled up waste, along with abandoned wooden furniture left in the villa-damaged cabinets, chairs, and tables-all ruined from rodent infestations. I burned these items safely to clear space and prepare the garden for future improvements.

A Cleaner, Greener Property 🌍 By the end of the day, two large burn piles were reduced to ash, leaving the villa and garden in a cleaner, more organized state. In line with my commitment to sustainable renovation, I'll be finding a recycling center to responsibly dispose of the plastic waste I gathered during the cleanup.
