Sarah Neely is a writer, producer, and professor in Film and Visual Culture at the University of Glasgow. Much of her research has focused on the Orcadian film-maker and poet, Margaret Tait. In addition to writing a book-length study on Tait’s films (Peter Lang, 2016), she served as editor for Tait’s collection of poetry and writings (published by Carcanet in 2012 and reprinted as a ‘Carcanet Classic’ in 2024), as well as an experimental non-fiction work of Tait’s entitled Personae (published by LUX in 2021). She was director of Margaret Tait 100, a year-long programme of events celebrating the centenary of Tait’s birth in 2018. She was also co-producer for Luke Fowler's feature-length film, Being in a Place: A Portrait of Margaret Tait (2023), a film which premiered at Berlinale in February 2023 and went on to win awards at several festivals, including Cinema du Reel (Best International Film) and HotDocs (Best Medium-Length Documentary).
