A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir announced he will lay the foundation stone for a new Babri Masjid in Murshidabad on December 6. The announcement drew sharp criticism from the BJP and the Congress, with the BJP's Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, accusing the TMC of engaging in communal politics ahead of the 2026 state assembly polls. A BJP leader stated, 'This clearly reflects the kind of hatred That Mamata Banerjee has for Hindus.' The BJP further alleged that the move is a deliberate attempt by the TMC, under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, to polarise votes by appeasing the Muslim community. The Congress party also condemned the TMC MLA's comments.
