The broadcast marked the beginning of a highly secure, weeklong schedule of state events.

The caskets of the late leader and several deceased family members have been placed on display at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla complex, drawing thousands of early mourners into the main courtyard ahead of a series of mass processions expected to pull millions into the streets between July 4 and July 9.
