Описание: How to repair a broken box sash window

Start by removing the trim that's holding the window sash in place.
Be careful and take your time because you probably want to reuse it.

Once the sash is out, remove the inserts to access the weights. Pull them out and use the old cord to measure the new cord length, and then feed the new cord in through the top rollers.

I recommend using a figure-eight knot at each end.

When you have the weight tied off and reinstalled, pull the cord all the way out and use a clamp to hold it.
Attach the sash and fit it back in place.
Reinstall the insert.
Reattach the trim, leaving a small gap against the sash so it won't bind.
