A major tragedy was narrowly avoided in Delhi’s Rohini area after a Class 11 student was caught carrying a pistol and live cartridges inside a reputed school. The incident sent shockwaves through the locality and raised serious concerns over rising violent tendencies among school-going children. The case pertains to a well-known school located in Sector-22, Rohini, identified as GD Goenka Public School Rohini.
According to information, on January 19, police received a PCR call alerting them that a student was roaming inside the school premises with a firearm. Considering the sensitivity of the matter and the safety of hundreds of students present on campus, the local police team immediately rushed to the spot. The school authorities later produced an 18-year-old student, Raj Kumar, before the police.
During a search, police recovered a country-made pistol and 10 live cartridges from the student’s possession. As soon as the recovery was made, panic spread across the school campus. Teachers, parents, and students were left stunned that such a dangerous weapon had made its way into a school that is considered safe and disciplined.
Sources revealed that the accused student had brought the weapon to school to scare his friends. It also emerged during questioning that he was having a personal dispute with another student, which allegedly pushed him to take this extreme step. The situation came to light when the school’s Estate Officer noticed the student trying to hide a suspicious object in a second-floor toilet. When confronted, the student attempted to flee and hid within the school building itself. After a brief chase, he was finally nabbed near the stage area.
The school principal was immediately informed, following which the police were called in and the weapon was seized. A case under the Arms Act was registered at Aman Vihar police station, and the accused was arrested on the spot. He was later produced before the Rohini Court, where the court granted police custody. Subsequently, the accused Raj Kumar was sent to jail, while police began investigating the source of the illegal firearm.
This incident has sparked serious concern not just among parents but also across the education and law enforcement circles. Rohini is considered a well-developed residential area with several reputed schools.
