There's a longer adaptation of this story (a six-part serial from the mid-1990s, already uploaded to the channel) but this 2009 version is still great fun despite its comparative brevity. It's still the length of a feature film, after all.
Far from the only classic tale of Imperial adventures in North Africa, Beau Geste is surely the most famous and the most-parodied; it tells of a young man who saves the face of another by taking a shame upon himself, and goes off to join the French Foreign Legion as a result.
