Petrol prices have hit record highs — reaching over PKR 450 per litre — and diesel has climbed above PKR 520, putting severe pressure on consumers already facing high inflation and economic strain.

The government says the hikes were necessary due to rising international energy costs caused by the Iran war and disruptions to oil supply routes, including through the Strait of Hormuz. Targeted subsidies are being rolled out to cushion vulnerable groups affected by the price shock
