Lewis Tanner Moore has spent a lifetime collecting works by Black artists. An exhibition at the Arts Council of Princeton features his extension collection of paintings by James Wilson Edwards, along with works by four of Edwards' colleagues and friends. For co-curators Rhinold Ponder and Judith Brodsky, these are five remarkable Black artists from the Princeton area who deserve far more attention. All five worked in the second half of the 20th century and were an important part of the region's cultural life, particularly as the city and nation grappled with the civil right movement. Included in the show are works by Wendell T. Brooks, Hughie Lee-Smith, Rex Goreleigh, and Selma Hortense Burke.
The feature was produced and directed by Eric G. Schultz for State of the Arts. Joe Conlon was the Director of Photography and Nemuna Ceesay narrates.
