In the heart of Siberia, Baikal is a lake of extremes.
Some 1,637 meters deep and 636 kilometres long, it contains more water than all the other lakes on the planet put together.
But its climate is also one of the harshest, dropping as low as minus 50 in winter. Despite this, it has been the home for thousands of years to many unique species, some of which are genuine living fossils.
