“Resilience in Rhythm” Exhibit Opening at Joseph Brant Museum
Museums of Burlington and danceScape celebrate 25 years of creativity, connection, and community through dance and technology
Opening of “Resilience in Rhythm: A Dance Story Across Generations” on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 7:00–10:00 PM at the Joseph Brant Museum (1240 North Shore Blvd E, Burlington) — an inspiring evening celebrating 25 years of resilience, creativity, and connection through dance.
Resilience in Rhythm is a community-curated exhibit presented by Museums of Burlington in collaboration with danceScape, founded by Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang, 3-time Canadian and 2-time North American Ballroom Champions.
Running from November 6, 2025 to January 6, 2026, the exhibit explores how this Burlington-based social dance club and studio has evolved and thrived through 25 years of technological and cultural change — from cassette tapes and VHS recordings to the digital revolution, online teaching during the pandemic, and now the age of Artificial Intelligence.
This exhibit reveals how human creativity continues to adapt through each wave of innovation. It traces danceScape’s transformation from its analog roots to the creation of AI-assisted learning and digital storytelling tools — a reflection of how art and technology can work together to preserve culture, teach movement, and inspire new generations.
Visitors will journey through a captivating timeline of personal and historical artifacts, including:
Vintage ballroom gowns, trophies, and medals from international competitions
Technological milestones such as early-generation iPods, video cameras, and VHS/Beta tapes that document the evolution of dance instruction through changing media formats
A shift in media and PR — from traditional press coverage in newspapers, magazines, and national television appearances to the rise of social media storytelling, livestreams, and AI-powered digital outreach
“This isn’t just a story about dance,” says Robert Tang, co-founder of danceScape. “It’s about resilience — how we keep moving, adapting, and finding meaning as each new technology changes the rhythm of our lives. Today, even AI has become part of the dance — helping us preserve memories, accelerate creativity, and connect with others in new ways.”
Attendees will also learn about UCMAS Abacus/iMaths Burlington and Rise Through Rhythm, a new STE(A)M Youth Initiative with danceScape that empowers children, youth, and families with limited resources to engage in Science, Technology, Art, and Mathematics — disciplines beautifully embodied through the art and rhythm of dance.
The exhibit is part of the Museums of Burlington’s new Community Curator Exhibit Program. It celebrates how technology can serve as a co-creative partner in preserving history and inspiring future innovation.
