'Shrimpgate' Exposed: What's really served, 90% of local restaurants allegedly import shrimp

Описание: South Carolina's shrimpers aren't backing down in what's been dubbed the “Shrimpgate Scandal”. The legal filings caused waves across the state as the South Carolina Shrimpers Association in July publicly named 40 restaurants in a federal lawsuit alleging deceptive marketing practices amongst them, claiming they were often promoting “local” shrimp while serving imported products.

The South Carolina Shrimpers Association said they’re ready to fight for what’s right and have reached agreements with several of the named restaurants.

The shrimpers say they have had conversations with 18 of the 25 defendants named in this case. Dismissals have already been filed for Carrigg’s Seafood, Mt Pleasant Seafood, Poseidon’s Playhouse, Tater’s Sea & Soul, and Happy Crab Cajun Seafood. Attorneys said these dismissals have not necessarily been due to financial action, rather the understanding of the shrimper’s goal to craft a solution to the misrepresentation of local shrimp.
