(8 Dec 2016) Iraqi troops were helped by Mosul residents on Thursday as they hunted for Islamic State group (IS) collaborators in areas retaken by government forces.
While many residents are choosing to leave the El Elam neighbourhood, others remain in their homes and have turned in neighbours they suspect of supporting IS.
Iraqi special forces soldiers say their presence in the neighbourhood has given locals some confidence to openly denounce others.
First Lieutenant Wissam Al Tamimi said 10 suspected IS members were arrested on Wednesday and that local residents told the special forces the detained men were working with the extremist group.
On Thursday, local men were asked to present their ID cards to the Iraqi troops, which were checked against a list of known IS workers, members of the Islamic police and courts and their agents.
