The words "kim" and "mey" have their origins in Sanskrit. "Kim" means why and "mey" means "for me" or just "me."

Jagannathan one of the great artists of Malayalam drama and film fields is the first one who performed "Kim Kim" song in the movie Oridathu, directed by Aravindhan. The veteran actor passed away in 2012. ജഗന്നാഥനാണ് ആദ്യമായി കിം കിം സോംഗ് പാടി നൃത്തം ചെയ്തത് പക്ഷെ വൈക്കം M മണിയാണ് ആദ്യമായി നാടകവേദിയിൽ പാടി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത്.

പാരിജാതപുഷ്പാപഹരണം എന്ന പഴയകാല മലയാള നാടകത്തിലെ സത്യഭാമയെന്ന കഥാപാത്രം പാടുന്ന പാട്ടാണ് "കാന്താ തൂകുന്നു തൂമണം". വൈക്കം M മണി സത്യഭാമയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി പാടുന്നത്.

1987ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഒരിടത്ത് എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിൽ ജഗന്നാഥൻ ഈ ഗാനം പാടി അഭിനയിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. "കിം" എന്ന വാക്കിന് "എന്തേ" എന്നർത്ഥമുണ്ട് സംസ്കൃതഭാഷയിൽ. "മേ" എന്ന വാക്കിന് "എനിയ്ക്കുവേണ്ടി, എനിയ്ക്ക്" എന്നൊക്കെയാണ് അർത്ഥം വരുന്നത് .
