For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, a nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign has officially begun!
The government aims to bring nearly five crore children, aged between nine months and under fifteen years, under this life-saving vaccination program.
To protect children from typhoid fever, the campaign has started simultaneously across the country — including Kalia Upazila in Narail district.
The program was inaugurated on Sunday (October 12) at Joka Baka Government Primary School by Dr. Md. Sowaib, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO).
Among others present were Dr. Partha Pratim Biswas (RMO, Kalia Upazila Health Complex),
Dr. Md. Taj Mallik (MODC), Nitish Kumar (MTPPI),
Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Saiful Islam,
and Head Teacher Ripa Rani Saha .
According to Dr. Sowaib, around 57,957 children in Kalia Upazila will receive the vaccine.
The campaign will continue for 10 days in schools and another 8 days at community clinics.
Although a few children appeared slightly nervous, they expressed happiness after receiving the vaccine.
Parents also said they now feel more relieved knowing their children are protected.
This one-month-long campaign aims to vaccinate nearly 50 million children nationwide, free of cost —
marking a historic milestone in Bangladesh’s public health journey.

Bangladesh is moving one step closer to a typhoid-free future.
