Summer passes quickly, especially when most of the days are spent at work. But in my small balcony garden, every week brings change, growth, and a little joy. 🌱✨
In this video, I share how my balcony has transformed since the last update.
From harvesting the last peas of June, to moving cucumbers into the sun, to enjoying the first tomatoes ripening on the vine.
I’ll also show you my favorite family recipe for crispy pickled cucumbers, the same one passed down from my grandmother and mother. For me, the process of pickling is almost meditative: quiet, slow, and full of love.
🌞 What you’ll see in this video:
– Balcony transformation through the summer
– Harvesting peas and preparing the garden for cucumbers
– Moving cucumbers to sunny spots for better growth
– Tomatoes thriving on the balcony
– My family’s traditional recipe for crunchy pickles
🍃 This is part of my Balcony Garden Diaries series, where I document the slow and peaceful rhythm of gardening in a small space.
If you try the pickle recipe, let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear how you like it! 💚
✨ Thank you for spending time in my garden. Wishing you a beautiful end of summer!
📌 Pickle Recipe:
Ingredients (for 1-liter jar):
Fresh cucumbers (small/medium size)
1–2 garlic cloves, peeled
1 dill flower head or fresh dill sprigs
2 blackcurrant leaves (optional)
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp salt (non-iodized)
2–3 tbsp white vinegar (5%)
8–10 coriander seeds
5–6 black peppercorns
1 bay leaf
Boiling water
Instructions:
Soak cucumbers in cold water for 2 hours, then rinse well.
Peel garlic, rinse dill and blackcurrant leaves.
Sterilize jars and lids with boiling water or in the oven.
Place blackcurrant leaves, dill, and garlic at the bottom of the jar.
Pack cucumbers tightly into the jar.
Pour boiling water into the jar and let sit for 20 minutes, then drain.
Refill with fresh boiling water, let sit for 5 minutes, then drain again.
Add sugar, salt, vinegar, coriander seeds, peppercorns, and bay leaf directly into the jar.
Fill the jar with boiling water to the top and seal tightly.
Turn the jar upside down, cover with a towel or blanket, and let cool slowly.
Store in a cool, dark place. Best enjoyed after a few weeks — super crisp and full of flavor!
