Phlogistinator Guide (How to Play Pyro on Attack) - TF2

Learning how to play the Pyro can be tough for newer Team Fortress 2 (TF2) players as good Pyro play relies quite heavily on gamesense, game knowledge, and awareness. These are skills that newer Team Fortress 2 (TF2) players and newer Pyro players haven’t fully developed yet. If you’re a new Pyro player who’s tried out each of Pyro’s weapons but just can’t figure out the class, then this video will certainly help you out! This is the second part of my Offensive Pyro playstyle guide which focuses on how you can play the Pyro as a dominating power class in Team Fortress 2 (TF2)!

Many players hate playing against the Phlogistinator because it’s considered to be a low-skill weapon and used by newer Pyro players. However, there is some room to improve with the weapon and combine it with more advanced tactics and techniques to maximise your effectiveness when using the Phlogistinator! Pyros who use the Phlogistinator need to get used to playing without access to airblast or reflects, which is a serious downside. However, you get access to critical hits (crits) after charging up the Phlogistinator’s crits meter by dealing fire damage to enemies. You can destroy enemy teams in Team Fortress 2 (TF2) by activating your crits and laying waste to enemies!

Despite how strong the Phlogistinator is when your crits are active, Pyros must understand that the downside of not having an airblast is a big deal. You lose your utility and supportive airblast and this is a serious downside. However, by watching this Offensive Pyro guide which goes into detail about how to use the Phlogistinator and how to play the Pyro in general, you can improve at the game whilst still using and enjoying the Phlogistinator!


There’s some basic tips for beginners as well as some more advanced tips for more experienced Team Fortress 2 (TF2) players or Pyros who just don’t use the Phlogistinator that often. Players of all skill levels can learn a few things from this video, but this video guide is obviously aimed at newer players, especially since the Phlogistinator doesn’t have the same level of mechanical depth as Pyro’s other weapons. That doesn't mean that there's no way to improve with the Phlogistinator, or that only new players can use the weapon! There's a huge difference between a novice using the Phlogistinator, and an experienced Pyro decimating enemy teams with it.
