The Virtuous Cycle is the first DLC for Mortal Shell which basically introduces a new permadeath mode. This mode also provides a lot of character upgrades / abilities making the gameplay a lot easier.
The Dark Form Obsidian Shell is obtained when you complete a run in Foundling mode (no shell) which I had just completed. This shell increases your weapon damage by 30% however only gives you 100 health which can not be upgraded and slowly decreases overtime. Almost every item you pickup restores your health back to 100 making it pretty easy run.
