I've been living in Canggu for over a year and with the island nearly empty of tourists and nomads, this has been a good time to find a new home. I put a lot of work into my old place where I lived for the past ten months but felt like it was time to move on. I wanted to find a newer and more spacious villa since Bali has truly become my home and I've transitioned from nomad to expat.
My criteria was to find a one or two bedroom villa with a bathtub in a quiet area for either 10 million Rupiah per month ($700) or 100 million Rupiah ($7,000) for a yearly contract.
I visited five different homes before choosing the one where I ultimately moved.
Some of my notes about finding a home in Canggu:
-Search the Facebook group "Canggu Community Housing" where all the announces and posted or post your own announcement.
-If you want to live in a private villa, you'll most likely have to commit to a year contract and pay the entire year's rent upfront.
-When you live in a guest house, the rent is cheaper the longer you stay.
-You rarely have to sign a lease if you're living somewhere month to month and I have never heard of anyone asking a security deposit when you rent monthly.
-In most rentals all utilities will be included (except electricity) as well as cleaning.
