The Neoplan Jumbocruiser Story: The Giant Bus of Fanfare and Failure [German Bus History]

Описание: Neoplan was always known for its innovation in long-distance buses. In 1967, it introduced the highly successful Skyliner, a double-decker luxury coach. But, customers wanted something with even more capacity.

So, in 1975, the manufacturer introduced the Jumbocruiser, a world-record breaking double-decker articulated bus that was the last word in size, comfort and innovation.

Unfortunately, for Neoplan, the Jumbocruiser did not do was well as expected - a total of only 11 vehicles were built between 1975 and 1992. Most bus or tour operators simply did not trust such a large bus, and often times most European bus terminals simply did not have the room for such a behemoth.

A couple of buses were involved in accidents, which made it an even more difficult sell. One bus was built for the USA and another for Japan.

While not numerous in number, they were some of the most impressive buses of all time!
