I had this game on PS1 originally, though I'm sure I rented the Mega Drive version at some point too. This is another game that has survived purely due to rose tinted glasses. The Super NES version in particularly bad as it's missing a bunch of content, has a lower horizontal resolution and altogether feels a bit unfinished.
If you feel that I'm wrong about any of these points, please play the game again before letting me know! Arguing with nostalgia is pointless!
