Agriculture continues to be one of the main causes of deforestation and biodiversity loss worldwide. In response to this global challenge, the European Union has adopted Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products (EUDR), which requires raw materials such as coffee to be traceable and free from deforestation since December 31, 2020.
This new regulation represents both a technical and financial challenge —especially for MSMEs and cooperatives— as well as a major opportunity to stand out in European markets that prioritize sustainability.
This crash-course offers a step-by-step guide to comply with the EUDR, designed especially for European small and medium-sized enterprises in the coffee sector.
This crash course is brought to you by the project "Colombian Green Coffee Chains project (also know as CAVEC)". The CAVEC project is an initiative under the AL-INVEST Verde program, running from April 2024 - April 2026, implemented by Inclusive Business Partners, ForumCiv, and the Government of Huila. This project has been carried out with financial support from the European Union, through Sequa, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida/ASDI). The content is the sole responsibility of Inclusive Business Partners and ForumCiv and does not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union, Sequa, Sida/ASDI, or the Government of Huila.
