On 18th November, UKMSW held a National Workshop on "Opportunities and Challenges for BAME Social Workers in the UK". This was our first national workshop with renowned speakers from various fields such as Universities, Social work England, COSW and BASW.
Dr George Palattiyil (Head of the Social Work Dept, Edinburgh) briefly introduced the workshop and facilitated the entire event. Amina Akhtar (Head of Equality and Diversity of Social Work England) was the inaugural speaker of the workshop, and the keynote address was presented by Dr David Jones (Commonwealth Organisation of Social Workers - COSW).
There was a joint presentation from the BASW Diaspora Special Interest Group Dr. Yohai Hakak (Senior Lecturer, Brunel University) and Priya David (BASW). The workshop also facilitated Individual Reflections of Social Workers from different levels of SW.
