Описание: The oud is everywhere in the Arab world, yet it rarely gets explained beyond “it’s the traditional guitar.” Walking through Cairo for a day with Joseph Tawadros, moving between workshops, rooftops, churches, markets and the Nile, I realised the oud is constantly being shaped, debated, improvised, and reinterpreted, and Joe does exactly tha.

This video is a conversation around the oud, its construction, its language, the maqam system, the difference between Western and Arab tonalities, and what it means to carry an ancient instrument inside a modern city.

This video is part of an ongoing documentary project exploring music, identity, and everyday life across Africa and the Middle East. After Egypt, the journey continues through Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and beyond.
