The infamous missing days of September 1752!

In 1752, Britain and its colonies, including America, adopted the Gregorian calendar, aligning their dates with most of Europe. To correct a 10-day discrepancy accumulated over centuries, the British Calendar Act of 1751 declared:

September 2, 1752, would be followed by September 14, 1752.

Eleven days vanished from the calendar!

Reasons for the change:

1. Julian calendar errors: The Julian calendar, introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BCE, had a leap year every four years. However, this resulted in an error of about 11 minutes per year, adding up to 10 days over 16 centuries.
2. Astronomical observations: Improved astronomical observations revealed the discrepancy.
3. Alignment with Europe: Britain wanted to align its calendar with most European countries, which had already adopted the Gregorian calendar.
