Central Tendency
Central tendency is a statistical concept that refers to the single value that best represents or describes the center point of a dataset. It gives us an idea about the "average" or most typical value around which data points are distributed. It is one of the most important descriptive statistics because it helps summarize a large amount of data with a single representative number.
The three most common measures of central tendency are:
1. Mean (Arithmetic Average)
2. Median (Middle Value)
3. Mode (Most Frequent Value)
Mean (Arithmetic Mean)
The mean is the most widely used measure of central tendency. It is calculated by adding up all the values in a dataset and dividing the sum by the number of values.
👉 In summary:
Central tendency helps us understand the central or typical value of data.
Mean is the most common measure but should be used carefully when the dataset has outliers or skewed values.
